Why have Orthodontics?

Our patients want a smile they can be proud off. They frequently comment on how their new smile has given them more confidence with themselves and with the people around them. We understand parents want to provide their children with the best chances of success and that adults seek treatment for personal and professional reasons.

Beyond the cosmetic advantages of straight teeth, there are important medical benefits as well.

Properly aligned teeth and jaws may alleviate or prevent physical health problems. This includes allowing you to bite correctly, eat more comfortably and care for your teeth and gums more easily.

Prominent (or sticking out) upper front teeth are a common problem in children and this particular problem has been linked with bullying. The risk of trauma/injury to upper incisors is also increased. Providing orthodontic treatment from 7 years of age, appears to significantly reduce the incidence of damage to the front four teeth at the top.

Patients with a small upper Jaw often present with a reverse overjet, commonly known as “underbite”.  Children treated between 7-9 years of age to correct the reverse overjet (“underbite”) may be less likely to require Jaw (Orthognathic) surgery in the future.

Therefore, orthodontic treatment can mean more than just a great smile. And that’s something you can smile about!
